Loudonville, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Erin Hepper exploded for five goals while four other teammates added multiple goal performances as the Siena women's lacrosse team streaked past Howard 19-8 this afternoon in Washington, D.C. Hepper also caused four turnovers in an all-around impressive performance as the Green and Gold improved to 2-3 on the season.
Both squads raced out to a fast start as Siena built a 6-3 lead just under 13 minutes into the game following a score from Kathryn Marcantonio. The Saints extended their advantage over Howard (1-4) to 10-5 entering the half.
In the second stanza Hepper tallied four of her five goals as Siena never looked back in winning by double figures.
The Green and Gold received multiple outstanding individual performances as fellow freshman and the team's leading scorer Caitlin Mikel posted a game-high seven points coming on a hat trick and four assists. Marcantonio and Courtney Highsmith each added five points including hat tricks, while Catherine Quinlan rounded out Siena's multiple goal scorers as she added a pair.
The Saints received immense help from their second unit as well as their reserves accounted for nine goals. Siena dominated the game throughout, harboring a 41-15 edge in shots while converting 4-of-10 free position shots.
The Green and Gold continue their southern swing Thursday with a game in Farmville, Va. against Longwood. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
