Final Stats
Loudonville, N.Y. - Trailing 6-3 near the end of the first half, Holy Cross responded with nine unanswered goals in stunning the Siena women's lacrosse team 13-9 this afternoon in Worcester, Mass. Freshman phenom Caitlin Mikel recorded a hat trick for the Saints (2-5) who ended their season-long four game road trip at 1-3.
The Saints raced off to a quick 6-3 lead early on thanks in large part to a pair of Mikel scores. Siena harbored this comfortable advantage with just over two minutes to go in the opening half before Holy Cross (3-6) mounted an impressive game-changing run.
The Crusaders scored four goals in the final 1:31 of the half, three off the stick of Nikki Bolduc, to sprint into the locker room with all the momentum and a freshly secured 7-6 advantage.
Holy Cross carried over their run to the second half, scoring the first five goals of the stanza to increase their lead to 12-6, making it nine unanswered goals in all. Siena hung tough and tallied three goals over the final three minutes of the game but it was not enough.
Courtney Highsmith was the Saints' other multiple goal scorer adding a pair. Bolduc led all scorers with four goals and an assist, while teammates Amy Archambault and Ali Baird each recorded hat tricks leading the Crusaders cause.
Holy Cross held a 35-25 shots and scooped 17 ground balls to the Saints' 13. The Green and Gold were most efficient at free-position shots, cashing in on four of their seven attempts.
Following their longest road trip of the year the Saints at long last will return home for the first time in 29 days when they host former MAAC foe LeMoyne on Tuesday. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. from Siena Turf Field.
