Final Stats
Kelly Bruvik tallied a hat trick and teammate Morgan Kauffman added five points as Bucknell defeated the Siena field hockey team 7-1 this afternoon in Lewisburg, Pa. Freshman forward Sarah Szewczyk continued to be a bright spot for the Green and Gold, scoring a goal for the third straight game.
In what was an eventful game both on and off the field, the game was delayed 30 minutes in the first half due to lightning. Once play resumed, it was Bucknell (6-3) which provided both the thunder and the lightning offensively, erupting for seven total goals, including three in an 11 minute span in the first half and three more in a seven minute span to start the second stanza.
After Bruvik opened the scoring just over a minute in, Kauffman added a pair of goals in just over a minute to make it 3-0 Bison at the 11:29 mark.
Szewczyk closed the gap to 3-1 moments later with her third goal in as many games. The reigning NEC Rookie of the Week now leads the Saints (0-7) with three goals and six points just four games into her first collegiate season.
But that would be all the offense the Saints would enjoy as Bucknell padded their lead early in the second half in racing off to the 7-1 triumph.
The Bison held a 24-3 edge in shots and a 16-1 advantage in penalty corners. Trina Boyer was the other Bucknell offensive player of note, finishing with one goal and two assists.
The Saints return to action Saturday as they look to pick up their first win of the season when they travel to UMass. Game time is slated for 12 noon.
