Final Stats
Albany, N.Y. - Hofstra tallied all three of their goals in the first 15 minutes of action as the Pride defeated the Siena Field Hockey team 3-0 this evening in the Saints' unofficial home opener at Alumni Turf Field on the campus of UAlbany. The victory marked Pride coach Kathy DeAngelis' 100th career victory at Hofstra.
Hofstra (2-0) got on the board just 3:10 into the contest on Charlia Warner's second goal in as many games. Kristin Thompson and Becky Kazaks added a pair of tallies in a 47 second stretch just minutes later to provide the Pride with an early 3-0 lead, which proved to be the final score.
Hofstra had numerous offensive opportunities throughout, however the Siena (0-2) goaltending tandem of Renee Clavette and Jennifer Tesak shut the door on any addition scoring chances. Clavette posted seven saves in the first half, while Tesak added nine in an unblemished second stanza.
The Saints garnered several strong scoring opportunities late, but could not crack through. With just over six minutes remaining, Jess Murphy fired a shot past Hofstra goalie Amanda Heyde, but Pride defender Erica Suitch made a sprawling defensive save to keep Siena off the scoreboard.
The Pride held a 33-6 edge in shots, including a 22-2 advantage in shots on goal. Kristin McGorty paced the Saints with three shots.
Siena returns to action Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. to host Cornell in another contest to be played at Alumni Turf Field in Albany, N.Y. before matriculating to Loudonville for the official home opener on Sept. 13 against LaSalle.
