Final Stats
Claire Wilkie's goal in the 56th minute proved to be enough for Saint Francis (Pa.) as they shutout the Siena field hockey team 1-0 this afternoon in Loretto, Pa. Andrea Caso's three shots led Siena in the defeat.
Both teams struggled offensively throughout the afternoon, as each squad tallied just five shots apiece. Siena (3-10, 1-3) held a major edge in corners with a season-high 17 to just six for the Red Flash (2-12, 2-2), but could not take advantage.
Oddly enough it was on one of the few Red Flash corners that produced the lone score. Eileen Paccione sent in a corner attempt that found Wilkie who fired home the game-winner from the left of the circle.
The Saints had their best chances late, registering a season-high 13 of their corners in the final stanza, but Red Flash goalie Katelyn Vitali registered three of her four saves in the half to post the shutout.
The Saints return to action Sunday afternoon for their final non-conference game of the season. Siena battles 18th ranked UAlbany on the road in a 2 p.m. start.
