LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Tavelyn James scored a career-high 32 points to lead Eastern Michigan past Siena 77-55 at UHY Court in Alumni Recreation Center Friday evening. Allie Lindemann led the Saints with 17 points and Serena Moore scored 14, her second double digit performance of the season.
Lindemann hit two 3-pointers in the first 5:44, the second of which gave the Saints an 11-10 lead. But James scored the next 10 points to open up a 20-11 lead. She finished the first half with 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field (4-of-5 from 3).
Siena (0-2) cut the deficit to as little as five points with 8:29 remaining in the first half, but would get no closer. EMU (3-0) stretched its lead to 40-23 at the half. Siena committed 15 turnovers in the first half which gave EMU nine extra possessions.
James continued to pepper Siena from the perimeter in the second half (4-of-7 from 3). She made a 3-pointer just 11 seconds in and the Eagles led by double digits the rest of the way.
Each team finished with 35 rebounds, but EMU crashed the offensive boards (17) throughout and scored 19 second chance points.
Sophomore Cristina Centeno scored two points and had five rebounds and two assists in her first game of the season.
Freshman Danielle Everson scored her first career basket with 4:09 remaining in the game.
Siena returns to action on Tuesday when it kicks off a three-game road trip at Wagner. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
