Senior point guard Ronald Moore gave his hometown fans a show, scoring 19 points and dishing out 11 assists helping Siena to its most points in the Fran McCaffery in a 99-79 win over Brown Saturday in the Philly Hoop Group Classic.
Clarence Jackson scored 23 points, making 8-12 field goals and 5-8 3-pointers. Alex Franklin had 21 points and six rebounds and Kyle Downey keyed a strong effort by the Siena bench scoring all 11 of his points in the first half.
The Saints had their best shooting performance of the season by far, converting 54% from the field, 53% from 3-point range and 83% from the foul line. They also did it with limited production from two of their better players.
Edwin Ubiles, battling a knee injury, played just 19 minutes and scored four points. Ryan Rossiter, who had scored 46 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in his previous two games, had just six points and six boards.
Not to be outdone, Brown shot 51% from the field and 40% from long range. The Bears out-rebounded the Saints 37-28 and got 23 points from Matt Mullery and 18 points and 11 rebounds from Andrew McCarthy. The two combined to make 19-25 field goals.
Siena seemed well on its way to its first 100 point game in over five years, having already reached 94 with 6:51 to go. Still, the 99 was the most since a 100-69 win over Saint Peter's on March 1, 2003.
The Saints complete play in the Philly Classic having won two games and lost two. They posted lopsided wins over Delaware and Brown and suffered single-digit setbacks to Temple and St. John's. Siena will have another crack at make a national statement when it travels to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech and former Saints' Head Coach Paul Hewitt on Wednesday.
