LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena got off to a slow start with just 13 points in the first half and never got into the game, losing to Saint Peter's 68-48 Friday evening at Alumni Recreation Center. Siena shot a season-low 21.2% from the field and committed 25 turnovers giving the Peahens a decisive win.
Siena (9-14, 8-6) shot just 3-of-17 (17.6%) in the first half and turned it over 11 times. Fortunately for the Saints, Saint Peter's didn't take advantage of their more than double field goal attempts, shooting 12-of-38 (31.6%) and taking a 25-13 lead into halftime. Sophomore Serena Moore led the Saints with seven points in the first half. She finished with a team-high 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Saint Peter's (10-13, 7-7) pressured the Saints all game and outscored them 28-12 off turnovers and 12-2 on the break. Tania Kennedy led the Peahens with four steals on top of her 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Sakara House led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-14 from the field.
The Peahens extended their lead to 22 points with 10:35 left in the second half until Siena went on a 9-0 run courtesy of five straight points by Heather Stec, a layup by Maja Gerlyng and three free throws by Cristina Centeno. With 5:29 remaining, Saint Peter's led 47-34 but that was as close as they got.
Siena and Saint Peter's combined for 48 fouls, albeit some coming from the Saints trying to get back in the game late.
Saint Peter's won both games against Siena this season, making it five in a row. The Saints have either won or lost both matchups against MAAC opponents this season that they've played twice (Niagara 2-0, Rider 2-0, Manhattan 2-0, Canisius 0-2 and Saint Peter's 0-2).
Siena returns to action Sunday when they play Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
