Final Stats
ALBANY, N.Y. - Siena's frontline combined for 37 points and 29 rebounds as the Saints shook off their first MAAC loss of the season to post a resounding 73-60 win over Loyola at Times Union Center Monday. It was the 16th straight home win for Siena, a streak that ties for the sixth longest in the nation.
Ryan Rossiter scored 14 points and had 18 of Siena's (19-6, 13-1) 47 rebounds. The 47 rebounds were the most for the Saints in a game since they grabbed the same total in a 92-73 win at Rider on February 12, 2006. Rossiter's 18 boards were the most by a Saint this year and equaled Alex Franklin's Siena 2007-08 season-high total set at Boise State last year.
For his part, Franklin made 7-9 field goals and finished with a team-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. It was the second straight game both players had double-doubles.
The Saints led 35-28 in the first half despite shooting 37% from the field and committing 10 turnovers. They held Loyola (11-15, 6-8) to 34% before the break and made 12-15 free throws.
The Greyhounds implemented a trapping, full court press for the majority of the game; a strategy that kept the Saints off-balance, but also allowed for open lanes to the basket when the press was broken, often resulting in layups or fouls.
Siena never trailed and pushed its lead to 20, 56-36, with 11:07 remaining and never looked back.
Edwin Ubiles added 17 points for the Saints, Kenny Hasbrouck had 11. Point guard Ronald Moore had seven assists and one turnover and the rest of the team had just five assists and 18 turnovers.
Loyola was led by Jamal Barney who had 19 points but took 22 shots. Marquis Sullivan scored 15 points and had all three of the Greyhounds 3-pointers. Loyola finished with 16 steals.
The Saints did much of their damage from the free throw line, converting 24-32 opportunities.
Siena returns to action Thursday against Manhattan here in Albany. The Saints' senior class will be honored before the game.
