MAAC Tournament Bracket
Kenny Hasbrouck scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, putting the final stamp on his MAAC Player of the Year candidacy, and helping Siena rally past Canisius 78-74 in the final regular-season game for both schools Sunday in Buffalo. The Saints finish conference play 16-2, equaling the most regular-season conference victories in league history.
Canisius shot 585 from the field in the first half and led 40-35 at the break. Hasbrouck, who made just 2-20 field goals in Friday's loss at Niagara, made just 1-6 tries in the first half. In the second half, he was the difference in the game.
The Griffs scored nine second into the second half to grab a 42-35 lead, but Siena answered with an 8-0 run capped by a Hasbrouck jumper to take the lead and force a Canisius timeout.
Canisius took its final lead, 51-50, on a Robert Goldsberry 3-pointer at the 13:36 mark. Goldsberry finished with a career high nine points and a career best nine assists. Hasbrouck answered with a three of his own and Siena led the rest of the way.
Siena point guard Ronald Moore finished off a strong weekend in Buffalo with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Alex Franklin had 17 points and nine rebounds and Edwin Ubiles added 11 points for the Saints.
Julius Coles led all scorers with 21 points for Canisius which saw its three-game winning streak snapped. Frank Turner had 16 points, but the point guard finished with just two assists and seven turnovers, many caused by Siena's three-quarter court trap in the second half.
The Griffs shot 52% for the field for the second time this season against the Saints. Siena shot 55% in the second half and 50% for the game. Hasbrouck had five of Siena's 13 steaks.
Siena will play the winner of #8 Loyola and #9 Canisius in Saturday's MAAC quarterfinals at 5 p.m.
