The Siena swimming and diving team concluded an impressive 2008-09 season by finishing tenth overall following the third and final day of the ECAC Championships completed Sunday afternoon in Boston, Mass. Siena tallied 135 total points and finished tenth overall amongst 27 competing teams.
Harvard University, which was the host school, won the championships. All ten MAAC schools competed and after finishing sixth in the MAAC Championships two weeks ago in Baltimore, the Saints were bested by only three conference rivals (Rider, Marist, Loyola).
The Saints were nine points out of a top-10 finish entering the final event but outscored MAAC rival Fairfield by ten points in the 400 free relay to top the Stags and take the tenth spot by a single point. The team of Caitlyn Biagioli, Brittany Pavolko, Rachel McShane and Katie Carew completed the event in a time of 3:34.46. Biagioli completed the first leg in a new school record time of :52.85.
Other notables included Elizabeth Rice who scored sixth in 1M dives with a score of 201.30 and Lauren Maxwell who swam to an 11th place time in the 200 breast. Maxwell's time of 2:27.00 was just one one-hundredth of a second slower than the program record.
The tenth place finish at the ECAC's completed an impressive season for the Saints. The team swam to a 7-5 overall record including a 3-2 ledger in MAAC meets before finishing sixth overall at the MAAC Championships.
