The Siena water polo team picked up a pair of victories Saturday, defeating Mercyhurst and Gannon at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. Lauren Garrigan and Ann Arbor native Devan Ragg paced the Saints (5-8), posting double digit point totals on the afternoon.
Siena squeaked out a 6-5 victory in the first win of the day over Mercyhurst. It was the second win in two weeks for the Saints over Mercyhurst after they had beaten them 12-9 at the ECAC Championships.
The Green and Gold opened an early 3-1 lead before Mercyhurst rallied to tie it at 4-4 early in the fourth. But Camille Norman responded with the game-winner as the Saints rebounded. Garrigan led the way with a hat trick and two steals while Lauren Biehle and Ragg added the other goals. Ragg also recorded four assists, while Norman drew three ejections.
In the final game of the day, the Saints made it two straight, topping Gannon 13-9. Siena broke up a 4-4 halftime tie as Garrigan scored five of her seven goals including the game winner in the third quarter. Garrigan added three assists for a ten point game.
Ragg added two goals and four more assists to finish the day with 11 total points in the two games. Chelsea Reczek also tallied two goals while Biehle and Norman each added one. Additionally, Norman had two assists, while Biehle drew four ejections.
Kissel again got the start in goal and earned the back-to-back victories, recording eight saves and two steals in the triumph.
The Saints return to action for the second and final day of the Wolverine Invitational Sunday. Siena will face host and 15th ranked Michigan at 10:30 a.m. before concluding the tournament against MAAC rival Marist at 1 p.m.
