UAlbany outscored Siena 7-1 in a 15-minute span during the second half to come back and beat the Saints 11-10 Tuesday evening in a non-conference women's lacrosse game in Albany. Siena has lost five consecutive games after winning five in a row earlier in the season. Senior Lindsey Rosecrans tallied six points after going scoreless for the first time this season in Siena's last game.
Siena (6-6) and UAlbany (7-6) traded goals in the early part of the game until Michelle Andreo and Rosecrans' goals broke a 2-2 tie and put their team up two goals. Jodi Battaglia drew UAlbany within one with her first goal of the game at the 13:43 mark of the first half. She finished with three goals.
Freshman Deirdre McQuillan scored a goal with 1:35 left before half and then assisted Erin Hepper with 18 seconds left to put Siena up 6-3. But Kayla Best won the ensuing draw and the Great Danes moved it down the field quickly until Taylor Frink was fouled. She scored a free position goal with one second on the clock.
UAlbany scored on 5-of-6 free position shots in the game while Siena converted just 2-of-9.
Rosecrans put the Saints up 7-4 five minutes into the second half, but UAlbany rattled off four straight goals to take their first lead of the game with 13:18 remaining in regulation. Courtney Highsmith tied it 8-8 on a pass from Rosecrans less than 30 seconds later, but UAlbany came back with three more goals to take a 10-8 lead with 7:09 remaining.
The Saints never quit, as Rosecrans scored at the 3:36 mark and Highsmith scored with 1:18 left on the clock to give their team a chance. In fact, they had three chances after Caitlin Mikel won the ensuing draw. Rosecrans ripped a shot wide and then had a free position shot go high. The Saints maintained possession and Kristin McMillan took her only shot of the game, but it was blocked. The Great Danes picked up the loose ball and cleared it for the victory.
Siena outshot UAlbany 31-29, but Katie Neer made 14 saves to earn the win for the Great Danes. Liz Peters stopped eight shots for the Saints.
Mel Rorie led UAlbany with four goals, all of them coming in the second half.
