Senior softball pitcher/outfielder Jamie Piela was named MAAC Second Team Thursday, earning the honor for the second straight season. Piela was also named to the MAAC All-Academic team along with classmate Renee Clavette and juniors Jessica Mushel, Stacie Sueda and Lauren Weingart.
Piela posted a 3.32 ERA in 20 appearances this season, recording a 2-9 record in 10 starts. At the plate, she started 33 games, batting .183 with two stolen bases. But Piela excelled in MAAC games, recording 1-3 mark in the circle with a 3.00 ERA and batting .278 in 12 offensive starts with one home run and five RBI.
The Wallington, N.J. product was named to the All-Academic Team with a 3.34 GPA in accounting. She will graduate later this month along with Danville, N.H. native Clavette who holds a 3.52 GPA in accounting. Mushel, a history education major from Hyde Park, N.Y., boasts a 3.48 GPA. Sueda, who hails from Honolulu, carries a 3.40 GPA in biology and Fishkill New York's Weingart registers a 3.51 GPA in history education.
