Field Hockey Blanked in Season Opener, 2-0

Aug. 29, 2009

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Radford scored a pair of goals in the span of just over a minute midway through the first half, spoiling the Siena Field Hockey team's season opener, 2-0 this afternoon at rain soaked Siena Turf Field. Goalie Renee Clavette kept the Saints close, posting 12 saves in defeat.

Radford (1-0) got on the board 14:57 into the action as Courtney Poole deflected in a crossing pass from teammate Madonna Wadolowski. The Highlanders wasted no time in taking a 2-0 advantage just over a minute later on a penalty corner. Lynsey Daughtrey placed the entry pass on the stick of Marlee Schramm who fired a one-timer from the top of the left circle past Clavette.

Sophomore back Rachelle Grover had a strong game for the Saints (0-1), playing stout defensively while registering the team's lone shot on goal. Additionally, she made a key defensive save late in the game to give Siena a chance.

Radford outshot the Saints 24-2 and held a 13-1 edge in short corners. Highlanders' goalie Jennifer Wisniewski made one save to record the shutout.

Schramm led Radford with six shots, three of which were on goal, while teammate Niamh Connolly had five total shots, two of which were on net. Kristin McGorty registered the Saints' lone additional shot.

The Saints return to action Sunday afternoon at Siena Turf Field for a 1 p.m. tilt with Bucknell.
