Sophomore Ian Donnelly finished sixth overall as the Siena men's cross country team placed fourth at the Fairfield Invitational Saturday morning. Donnelly was the top finisher for the Siena men in six of eight races last year. The women's team finished sixth behind freshman Lia Gizzarelli who paced the team in her first collegiate race. Fairfield took first place for the men's race and UConn won the women's race.
Donnelly's team leading time for the 8K race was 26:45. Behind him were freshmen Joe Abed-El-Latif (19th-28:24) and Stephen Gwizdak (21st-28:44), junior John Farley (22nd-28:58), freshman Jonathan Duncan (24th-29:09), and sophomores David Ellsworth (25th-29:09) and Zach Fitzsimmons (26th-29:12).
Gizzarelli finished the women's 5K in 25th place with a time of 20:24. Junior Brina Seguine followed her teammate with a time of 21:17. Rounding out the top-7 for the Saints were freshman Chrissy DelSanto (34th-21:54), senior Carly Calogero (35th-22:19), freshman Christy Bak (36th-22:29), junior Jessica Morelli (38th-22:32) and senior Ashley Gardineer (39th-22:42).
This marked the first meet with new head coach Alison Wade. Three freshmen finished in the top-7 for both the men's and women's teams.
Siena returns to action on Sunday, September 20 in the NJIT Classic.
