La Salle Shuts Down Saints, 4-0

Sept. 13, 2009

Final Stats

La Salle's Beth Carey registered four points as the Siena field hockey team fell 4-0 to the Explorers Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa. The loss, which was Siena's third straight, dropped the Green and Gold to 1-5 while La Salle improved to 3-4.

La Salle got on the board first midway through the opening half by cashing in on a penalty corner. Carey served the ball in to teammate Haley Froshour who deadened the ball for Rebecca Chylack who blasted a shot into the back of the cage to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead.

Less than six minutes later Carey and Chylack hooked up again, this time with Chylack feeding Carey to give La Salle a 2-0 edge at the half. La Salle dominated the first half of action, out-shooting the Saints 11-2, while taking seven penalty corners to Siena's four.

The Saints picked up the offensive pace in the second half, but could not solve Explorers goalie Emma Ruth who made three of her four saves in the final stanza to earn the shutout.

Meanwhile La Salle added two more tallies early in the final period to take the 4-0 victory. The Explorers out-shot the Saints 21-9 for the game, although the Saints led in penalty corners, 12-11.

Renee Clavette registered another double-digit save performance with 11 stops, while sophomore Sarah Szewczyk led the offense with three shots.

The Saints conclude their four-game road trip Wednesday at Holy Cross. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. from Worcester, Mass.
