Saints Shock Boston College in OT

Sept. 29, 2009

Final Stats

Freshman forward Emery Welshman scored his first collegiate goal in the 104th minute to send Siena past Boston College 1-0 Tuesday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass. This was Siena's first ever game against an ACC team in program history. The Eagles outshot the Saints 14-13 but only required goalkeeper Phil Chabot to make one save, and he did.

Siena (5-3-1) and Boston College (5-4) played a scoreless 90 minutes. The Saints held a 12-10 shot and 4-2 corner kick advantage through regulation. The Eagles took all three shots in the first overtime but could not find the target.

Welshman scored the golden goal in the second overtime when he one-timed the shot from six yards away. Joe Tempone and Joe Tavernese assisted on the play.

Siena has never before played an ACC school and its only previous game against Boston College, of the Big East at that time, was a 3-1 loss on September 7, 1999.

Siena concludes its non-conference schedule at Temple on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
