Franklin Honored by ECAC

Jan. 26, 2010

Alex Franklin, who was selected MAAC Player of the Week for the fifth time in his career Monday, was named ECAC co-Player of the Week Tuesday. Franklin averaged 24.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game in a pair of Siena wins. He shares the award with Ca Long of George Mason.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) is the nation's largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with approximately 300 member institutions ranging across 16 states from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. Established in 1938 with 58 charter members, the ECAC has since emerged as the nationwide leader in service.

Franklin shot 55 percent from the field (16-29) on the week and made 17-of-23 free throws. Franklin began the week with a game-high 22-point, eight-rebound and two-steal effort in the Saints' comeback win over Loyola. He scored a season-high 27 points and rounded out a double-double with ten rebounds in the team's win at Manhattan. Franklin took over the team scoring lead this week (16.1 ppg) and is the only player in the MAAC to rank in the top five in scoring (third), rebounding (fifth), and field goal percentage (third).

Long averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a pair of George Mason road victories. Long poured in a career-high 27 points and dished out seven assists in a 90-72 triumph at Hofstra and followed with a team-high 21 points and six rebounds in an 80-71 win at Towson. For the week, Long shot 72.7 percent (16-22) from the floor and 69.2 percent (9-13) from three-point range. He has scored 20 or more points in three straight games.
