SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Siena offense was stifled Sunday, and the field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Bryant in their first conference game of the 2010 season.
Siena (2-10) was outshot 16-6, and Lisa Heimerle recorded the team's lone shot on goal. Despite the stats, head coach Bill Davidson was fairly upbeat about his team's performance.
"We came out the way I would want my team to come out every game," he said. "We were communicating and passing, we just didn't finish. You can only go so long without scoring before the other team has chances."
Bryant (4-9) extended their winning streak to three games, and has won four of their last five. Alex Guisti scored off a penalty corner in the 19th minute, and Alexandra Czerniak followed up ten minutes later with a breakaway goal off a pass from Elise Boissoneau. Courtney Landi tallied the lone second-half goal, scoring in the 47th minute with an assist from Chiedza Mawema.
In goal, Beth Meyers tallied four saves, while Alison Baillargeon tacked on two more in relief. The Saints will next be in action at 4:00 P.M. on Friday at Siena Turf Field against Robert Morris.
