The weather wasn't what one would hope for, but Siena's women's golf team turned in a stellar performance on Saturday at the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, N.J. The Saints shot 655, good for third place at the twenty-team competition, and senior Catherine Shomo tied for third individually.
The entire tournament was contested in rainy, windy conditions, and the first round had to be completed Saturday morning before second-round play could commence. Head coach Dave Wronowski was very pleased with the team's tenacious effort.
"The course played very difficult," he said. "But the girls played extremely well given the conditions. They were very patient."
As a team, the Saints shot 331 in the first round and 324 in the second. They finished thirteen shots behind Fairleigh Dickinson, who won with a 642 (339-303). Individually, Sacred Heart's Gabriella Riber took medalist honors with a total score of 155. Shomo finished in a five-way tie for third at 160.
This was Siena's last tournament of the fall season. The Saints will resume play in the spring.
