Siena out-scored Marist 44-25 in the second half to coast to a 76-51 victory on Senior Day at Times Union Center. The Saints set a MAAC record with their 17th league win (17-1) and ran their home win streak to 35 games - the second longest streak in the nation.
The road to a third straight MAAC Championship and NCAA berth will begin here in Albany on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. for the Saints who face the winner of the #8 Loyola vs. #9 Manhattan game (Friday at 7 p.m.) in the quarterfinals
For the second straight game, four starters reached double figures, and for the second straight game senior Edwin Ubiles led the way with 21 points. Classmate Alex Franklin ended with 15 points and 13 rebounds and Ronald Moore moved within two assists of the program record (Marc Brown 796) with 12 dimes.
Junior Ryan Rossiter had his school-record 18th double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, scoring all 15 of his points in the second half. Classmate Clarence Jackson scored 12 points in 29 minutes and sophomore Kyle Downey had two assists in 11 minutes, seeing his first game action since he broke his foot in practice on January 19.
Marist hung tough in the first half, and led 26-24 with 3:18 to play following Candon Rusin's jumper. Edwin Ubiles' free throw less than a minute later gave the Saints the lead for good. Siena took a 32-26 lead to the lockerroom despite shooting just 32% from the field in the first half.
The Saints used a 13-0 run to build a 44-31 lead with 16:21 left and led by double figures for all but 43 seconds the rest of the way.
The margin allowed Head Coach Fran McCaffery to sub freely and all 14 members of his active roster played and 10 players scored.
Devin Price led the Red Foxes with 12 points. Dejuan Goodwin had 11 points and Korey Bauer finished with 16 rebounds and eight points. Marist will play #7 seed Canisius at 9:30 on Friday night in the Opening Round.
The winner of Siena's quarterfinal game will play in the semifinals Sunday at 4 p.m. against the winner of #4 Saint Peter's vs. #5 Rider.
