HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Siena squandered a four-goal lead and lost to Hartford 13-11 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference neutral site game in Hempstead, N.Y. It was the front end of a doubleheader with Hofstra and Brown.
Freshman attackman Danny Martinsen tallied four points and senior midfielder Shaun Dunn scored three goals in the loss.
Siena (1-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 2:28 remaining in the first quarter and 5-1 at the end of the period.
Hartford (1-2) scored four straight goals in a five minute-span to open the second quarter, but still trailed the Saints 8-6 at halftime.
Hartford outshot Siena 27-17 in the second and third quarters and outscored them 12-6 in the final three periods.
Siena won 10-of-27 faceoffs, a part of the game it dominated in its 13-12 win at UAlbany on Tuesday (21-of-29).
Senior (1-2) goalie Brent Herbst made 13 saves in the loss.
Freshman midfielder Mic DeBellis scored his first collegiate goal.
The Saints play their MAAC opener next Saturday at Saint Joseph's.
