Jasleen Sandhu and Danielle Crill have been selected as Siena's women's tennis team captains for the 2010-11 season. Crill and teammate Jennifer Messing will serve as the program's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives.
"I am 100% sure Jasleen and Danielle will be the best captains yet," Head Coach Andy Christodoulou said. "I talked to both and they assured me of their commitment to provide support, leadership and integrity for the team. Most important, they will represent the team with the utmost honor and respect, leading us by example."
Sandhu was an obvious choice to lead the program. She played top singles and doubles last year after playing second singles and doubles as a freshman. Sandhu has also excelled in the classroom, entering her junior season with a 3.92 GPA in business.
"Any team would want to have a Jasleen leading their program," Christodoulou said
Crill is the team's emotional leader on and off the court.
"Danielle lets her play speak for itself and she is always encouraging and supporting her teammates," Christodoulou said.
"From day one, our new captains have shown the highest levels of character, work ethic, and leadership. They continually drive themselves and their teammates to pursue new levels of achievement not only at games but at practice as well. They are the perfect duo to help develop the type of mentality and chemistry that winning teams need. I am looking for them to elevate the team to a new level."
Messing joins Crill on Siena's redesigned SAAC. This year's the athletic department is empowering the committee to serve as the voice between the student-athletes, administration and campus. In turn the department requested that all SAAC representatives are the true leaders of their program. Messing and Crill will have great responsibility in shaping the development of their program adn the athletic department as a whole.
