Lehigh Shuts Out Siena, 4-0

Sept. 22, 2010

Box Score

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Field Hockey returned to the Capital Region for just their second home game this season, hoping to turn rebound from a tough road trip. But, unfortunately, the result was the same for the Saints which were shutout for the fourth straight game, falling 4-0 to Lehigh.

Despite out-shooting the Saints (1-7) 16-4 in the first half, the Mountain Hawks (2-7) managed just one goal, coming in the eighth minute from Madison Ingal. Siena had a chance to tie the game late in the first half, but Jenna Gifford failed to convert on a penalty stroke.

In the second half, Lehigh opened things up offensively, scoring three times in just under 13 minutes to put the game away. Ingal added another tally, while Kelsey Zeswitz chipped in with a goal and an assist.

The Saints were led offensively by Lisa Heimerle who registered three shots. Despite having an injured hand, Heimerle played through the pain to help pace the Saints' offensive attack.

Beth Meyers and Alison Baillargeon combined for 13 saves in goal for the Saints, while Lehigh's Jessica Miller stopped four shots to earn the shutout.

Lehigh out-shot Siena 25-8 and took 13 short corners to the Saints four.

Siena has six days off before returning to action Tuesday at crosstown rival UAlbany. Game time is 4 p.m.
