It's been no secret that Catherine Shomo has had a dominating fall. But on Sunday playing hurt with a forearm injury, the Siena senior kicked it into another gear. Shomo followed an Opening Round score of 74 to shoot a season-low 71 on the second 18 to lead Siena women's golf to seventh at the Yale Intercollegiate.
"Our ball striking was much better today as a team and the girls have made good progress since our last tournament," commented head coach Dave Wronowski.
The host Bulldogs lead Ivy League rival Penn by six strokes for the overall lead following the first 36 of 54 holes in the 14-team tournament. Siena fired rounds of 307 and 312 to place in the top half of the scoring.
At +1 for the tournament, Shomo stands fifth overall and just four strokes off the individual lead behind Penn's Isabel Han.
Classmate and fellow captain Katelynn Mannix was steady throughout with matching scores of 77 to round out the Siena leaders.
Final round action tees off tomorrow morning at the Yale Golf Club in New Haven, Conn.
