Box Score
Siena field hockey scored its first goal and took its first lead in six games, but No. 17 UAlbany responded with six second half goals as the Saints fell 9-1 Tuesday at their crosstown rivals. Lisa Heimerle recorded her first goal of the year in defeat.
The Saints (1-8) made the most of their only shot of the game, scoring in the 12th minute to take the lead. Heimerle tipped in a cross in front of the cage from Cory delaGorgendiere for her fifth career goal.
But the nationally ranked Great Danes (8-2) responded with three goals before the half before tacking on six more in the second half to cruise to victory. Daphne Voormolen, Alysia Hough and Tessa Knapp each scored two goals apiece for UAlbany.
Freshman goalie Beth Meyers kept things interesting early by making some big saves in net. She finished with a single-game program record 18 saves in her 51 minutes between the pipes.
The Saints return to action Sunday for their final non-conference road game of the season when they travel to Vermont in 1 p.m. matchup.
