The past four seasons, Siena swimming and diving had opened with losses to regional power New Hampshire. The tradition continued Saturday at the Siena Swim Center, with the Wildcats topping the Saints 126-93 and lowering five pool records in the process.
Siena (0-1) is a new-look team this year, featuring nine freshmen that made collegiate debuts Saturday afternoon. Of note, Shannon Love finished second in the 50 free with a time of :24.65, Amanda Podczerwinski notched a third in the 200 back (2:11.40), and Jacque Medina placed third in the 1,000 free (10:55.47). The meet-closing 200 free saw a second-place finish from the Saints, with Love, Podczerwinski, Katie Carew, and Dana Tricarico stopping the timer in 1:41.76.
New Hampshire (1-0) smashed five Siena Swim Center standards in a seven-event run. Jessica Little broke both the 200 I.M. (2:09.27) and 200 breast marks (2:20.88), Ellen Pelletier eked past the one-meter diving record (260.60), Lauren McCandless smashed the 200 fly standard (2:06.59), and freshman Katie Mann broke a pool record in her first collegiate 200 back event (2:06.10).
Siena returns to the pool at next weekend's Northeast Catholic Invitational, which will be held at Boston College.
