Siena swimming and diving got off to a rough start last weekend, but the Saints put it behind them Saturday at the Northeast Catholic Invitational at Boston College. In the dual meet portion of the event, Siena won five of six matchups, losing only to the host Eagles.
The Saints (5-2) defeated Assumption (212-120), Holy Cross (231-115), Iona (187-163), LeMoyne (232-106) and Regis (278-39), and dropped a narrow 173-164 decision to Boston College. The Eagles swept all six of their dual meets, and Siena was the only other school to win five.
Siena won six individual events, and freshman Jacque Medina took center-stage with four triumphs. The first-year Saint won the 1,000 free (10:46.18) by over six seconds, in addition to the 200 free (2:00.17), 500 free (5:17.93), and 400 free relay (3:47.01, with Dana Tricarico, Katie Carew, and Amanda Podczerwinski). Classmate Shannon Love also won two events, finishing in first place in both the 50 free (:25.01) and 100 free (:53.95).
Next up for Siena is a rematch with Holy Cross on Wednesday night in Massachusetts.
