Mikel's Milestone Day Paces Saints to Rout of Liberty

March 12, 2011

Box Score

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior attack Cailtin Mikel became Siena's all-time assists leader and just the third player in program history to eclipse 100 career goals as the Saints' routed Liberty 19-6 Saturday at Siena Turf Field. Not to be outdone, fellow captains and classmates Erin Hepper and Allie Primo each recorded career-highs with four goals apiece.

Mikel, who finished with a game-high five points, tallied two goals and three assists. Mikel now has 51 career helpers passing Stephanie Petrucelli '04 for the all-time lead in assists, while joining Christina Pampalone '07 and Lindsey Rosecrans '09 as the only Siena (3-3) players to reach triple figures in career goals.

Additionally, Mikel now stands just two points away from passing Rosecrans for the program's all-time career scoring record. She added five draw controls and three groundballs in a solid all-around performance.

Liberty (1-2) kept things close early as Jen Moyer's third goal of the first half pulled the Flames to within 7-4 with 9:38 remaining. But Siena would respond with nine unanswered goals over the next 24:39 to build an insurmountable 16-4 lead and cruise to victory.

Siena dominated all facets of the game, out-shooting Liberty 45-16, while holding a 29-16 edge in groundballs and an 18-8 advantage in draw controls.

All seven Saints who scored recorded multiple tallies as Kristin McMillan contributed a hat trick and Deirdre McQuillan, Katie Maguire and Michelle Andreo each scored a pair of goals as Siena posted its largest victory since a 16-goal margin in a win over Saint Francis (Pa.) in 2003.

Hepper, who missed the first three games of the season due to injury, scored her first four goals of 2011 in her first start of the season. Meanwhile Primo, who had scored just 11 career goals entering this season, now stands tied for second on the team with nine tallies so far this year.

Preseason All-MAAC selection Amanda Corso led the Siena defense causing four turnovers as the Saints allowed a season-low six goals.

Moyer paced Liberty with four goals and three draw controls, while Karis Walborn and Emily Dinsmore each added a goal.

The Saints return to action Wednesday when they welcome Vermont to Siena Turf Field for a 3 p.m. start.
