The Siena women's tennis team lost its MAAC semifinal match to regular-season champion Fairfield 4-0 Wednesday at the Billie Jean USTA Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The setback ends the 2010-11 season.
"Even though we lost the doubles point, it was every close match at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles," Christodoulou said. "We will use this season as a foundation, and this loss as motivation for next year. This team is a special team, and they are coming into their own."
Wednesday's match was delayed over two hours due to rain in the New York City area. Fairfield took the doubles point with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match was tied at 7-7 when it was called because the Stags had clinched the point.
