Final Stats
The Siena Field Hockey team could not handle Northeast conference foe Rider University, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Broncs. The Saints managed only two shots in the game, both coming in the second half while surrendering 35 to Rider.
The Broncs (10-5, 3-1) got on the board first when Sandra Penas converted a cross down the middle to find the back of the net. Rider would score one more time in the opening frame as Allison Muschs fired from on top of the circle to give the Broncs the 2-0 lead.
The deficit could have been more one-sided but Beth Meyers stepped up once again as she recorded 19 saves in her second straight contest. The junior stopped 12 of those shots in the first half as Rider outshot the Green and Gold 23-0 in the first 35 minutes.
Siena's (0-12, 0-4) defense would clamp down a little bit as Rider only touched net once in the half. That came in the 49th minute of the game off of a penalty corner.
The Saints, however would go on the board when Lindsey Yenter took a pass from Michaela Sullivan for her first collegiate goal. Yenter made the team last season as a walk on but only played in six contests, while seeing action in nine this season. It was also the first career assist for Sullivan.
For the game, Siena was outshot 35-2 and also outnumbered on penalty corners 20-2. Meyers picked up 19 saves for Siena while Joel Prettyman recorded one for the Broncs.
Siena will continue on the road trip as they travel to Monmouth for another NEC game. The start time will be at noon.
