LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - JaQuayla Berry's free throw with 4.5 seconds remaining was the only point scored in the final 6:15 as North Carolina A&T held off Siena 49-47 Tuesday night at the ARC. Tehresa Coles led the Saints with 11 points in a losing effort.
Siena (1-3) reclaimed the lead on a Clara Sole Anglada layup with 6:37 remaining, erasing what was at one time a 10-point second half deficit. It would be the Saints' final points of the game as they missed their final eight shots and committed seven turnovers over that time.
North Carolina A&T (2-2) couldn't muster much more. The Aggies in turn misfired on their final six shots while committing six turnovers to close out the game. Overall, the teams combined for 50 turnovers in the contest.
Amber Calvin was the difference in the game, coming off the North Carolina A&T bench to score 20 of her game-high 28 points in the first half. Fourteen of those came during the Aggies' 20-5 run to close out the stanza and take a 30-22 lead into the lockerroom.
Siena found its spark in the second half and at one time made five straight shots, executing with precision in transition. Coles played a major role in the action and added six steals, five rebounds and five assists to her stat line.
Lily Grenci added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Saints, while Kate Zarotney was once again solid off the bench with eight points and five rebounds. Berry contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Aggies.
Siena returns to action Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip off at Binghamton.
