The Siena women's tennis team had to wait through a two and a half hour rain delay Tuesday, but the Saints weathered the storm to defeat Savannah State 5-2 and Hood College 7-0 in the USPTR Spring Tennisfest in Hilton Head, S.C.
The match with Savannah State was shortened to presets due to the rain.
Siena won the top two singles matches, including an exhilarating 8-7 (4) victory at top singles by Jasleen Sandhu. Carly Holloway, Nicole Ross and Jessica Macaluso each won their singles matches as well. Macaluso blanked her opponent (8-0) at No. 5 singles.
The Saints swept the three doubles matches to get the match started string. Sandhu and Holloway teamed for an exciting 8-7 win at top doubles, Ross and Brittany Filip won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and Cassandra Braz teamed with Macaluso for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Siena then traveled across town to Hilton Head High School to face Hood College, and the Saints prevailed in straight sets.
Sandhu, Holloway, Filip, Crill, Holloway and Braz each won their singles matches in straight sets, and no player allowed their opponent to score more than a point.
The Saints displayed equal dominance in double play, winning the three matches 8-2, 8-0 and 8-0.
Siena's final match in the Tournament will come Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. against North Central Texas College.
