Field Hockey Edged by Vermont

Sept. 23, 2012

Final Stats

After their most lopsided loss of the year, the Siena field hockey team bounced back to show a greater effort, but was still edged by the Vermont Catamounts 1-0 on Sunday.

"We played the best game of the season," head coach Kara Zappone said. "We played with a lot of heart."

The game remained scoreless until the waning seconds of the first half when Vermont's (1-8) Taylor Silvestro was credited with a goal that deflected off a defender. Siena (0-6) had three different opportunities to tie the game up in the second half but the Catamount's goalie Stephanie Zygmunt managed to save shots taken by Michaela Sullivan, Megan Bohse, and Megan Meyers.

The Saints recorded a season high 12 shots in the loss while Beth Meyers stopped eight of the nine shots coming her way. Siena also tallied a new high for 2012 with nine penalty corners attempted while Vermont recorded 11.

Siena will have the next week off before traveling to Cornell on Sunday Sept. 30. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. tilt.
