LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Tied at 45 with 9:23 remaining, Siena went on a 13-0 run over the following seven minutes en route to a 62-52 win over Loyola Sunday at the ARC. Siena won their third straight for the first time in two years and snapped a five-game losing streak against Loyola, topping the Greyhounds for the first time in three seasons.
Lily Grenci had another huge afternoon for Siena (7-10, 3-3) with 20 points and eight rebounds, helping the Saints even their conference record after they had dropped their first three. Grenci continues to dominate in conference action where she is averaging 19.3 points and 9.5 rebounds in six league contests.
Clara Sole Anglada added 18 points including a pair of huge threes during the Saints' decisive late run. Loyola (6-11, 1-5) went 7:04 between baskets, missing all five of their shots and turning the ball over six times during that stretch.
Loyola never led, but the Saints had trouble shaking off the Greyhounds who were without the services of MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Katie Sheahin for a second straight game. Siena led 32-28 at the half and most of the final stanza was either a one or two possession game until the final run.
Loyola tied the game for a fourth and final time at 45 on a jumper by freshman Diana Logan with 9:23 remaining. The Greyhounds were buoyed by their freshmen as Logan (12 points) and Tiffany Padgett (13) each scored career-highs.
But Siena eventual wore down the undermanned Greyhounds, turning over normally sure handed Loyola 11 times in the second half. Siena capitalized with a 23-13 edge in points off turnovers.
Tehresa Coles was the third Saint in double figures with 10 points. As has become their trademark, Siena once again cashed in at the free throw line making 19-23 (82.6%) from the charity stripe, while Loyola attempted just seven foul shots.
Alyssa Sutherland added 13 points for Loyola which has lost four in a row. Kara Marshall, Loyola's second leading scorer, posted all nine of her points and five assists in the first half and was pressured into seven turnovers.
Siena now prepares for a huge week as the face the top two teams in the MAAC - Marist and Fairfield - on the road. The Saints travel to Connecticut first to face Fairfield Friday at 7 p.m.
