Another Friday afternoon and another one-goal loss for the improving Siena field hockey team. Callie Weise and Megan Bohseeach found the back of the cage, but Monmouth did just enough to hold on for a 3-2 win in Loudonville.

"We played a very hard game today, and fought from beginning to end. We continue to improve, and are learning more and more about ourselves every day," said Coach Zappone. "It is only a matter of time before everything truly falls into place. Our time is coming."

Weise deflected an entry pass less than four minutes into the game to put the Saints (0-12, 0-2) up 1-0, but Monmouth (4-9, 1-0) scored the next three goals to take command. Bohse scored off a perfectly executed penalty corner with a little less than nine minutes to play to bring Siena within a goal.

Trish O'Dwyer scored the game-tying goal and the go-ahead tally for the Hawks. Melanie Dawson finished Hannah Loux's attack from the endline in the 56th minute for the game-winner.

Beth Meyers played the first half in goal for Siena, registering four saves and allowing just one goal. Mary Drabichplayed all but the final two minutes of the second half, making three saves.

Teresa Mathews picked up the complete-game victory for Monmouth, stopping one shot.

The Hawks out-shot Siena 7-1 in the first half, but just 6-5 in the second. The Saints controlled an 8-5 edge in penalty corners. Siena used an empty net for the final two minutes, but couldn't manage a shot on goal.

The Saints continue the quest for that elusive victory Sunday at home against Rider at 1 p.m.
