The Saints Swim team rebounded nicely after their home opener defeat last weekend and won their meet against the Purple Eagles of Niagara University 136-78 this afternoon at the Siena Swim Center.
The Saints would start the meet with a seven consecutive event win streak, which was started by the 400-medley relay team of Emily Hovey, Kelsey Helin, Amanda York and Maggie Fletcher. They finished the relay in 4:08.77. "I'm really proud of the team," said Paul Kueterman. "They rose to the occasion against a conference opponent and swam with heart and confidence within themselves and each other."
Emily Carideo had a strong performance in the distance events, sweeping the 1000-yard Free and the 500-yard Free. Carideo finished the 1000-yard Free in 10:49.76 and the 500-yard Free in 5:17.38. Megan Grace finished third in the 1000-yard Free in 11:05.99.
Shannon Love also earned multiple wins in her two individual events, the 50-yard Free and the 100-yard Free. Love finished the 50-Free in 24.99 and the 100-Free in 55:28. Junior Amanda York joined Carideo and Love as the three Saints to deliver multiple event wins this afternoon. York won the 100 Butterfly with the time of 1:01.27.
Jacque Medina swam away from the field early in the 200-yard Free and finished five seconds ahead of the pack, finishing with a time of 1:58.78. Medina also earned a second place finished behind Carideo in the 500-yard Free with a time of 5:22.09.
Dory Miller continues her success in the pool after winning the 200-yard IM with the top time of 2:16.20.
The Saints would eventually win nine of a total 11 Swimming events against Niagara. Kelsey Helin would finish off the win with a victory in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Helin finished with a time of 1:11.23.
Swimming and Diving will now prepare themselves for the three-day ECAC Championships in Bronx, N.Y on December 6, 7 and 8. The next home match is scheduled for next semester on January 24, when they host Assumption.
