Siena shook off a tough 25-23 loss in the first set to roll past Canisius (23-25, 25-12, 25-16 and 25-20) in a MAAC match it desperately needed Saturday in the ARC. Taylor Akana led the way with 14 kills and a career-high 26 digs.
Siena (11-14, 10-5) setter Haley Howell was tremendous, distributing the ball evenly across the front and keeping Canisius off balance. Jacqueline Skeen and Rachel Stoklosa each had 13 kills, and Meghann Wright added 11 kills and 13 digs on the right side for the Saints.
Rookie libero Bobbi Lin Kalama equaled Akana's 26 digs, anchoring a backrow that managed 83 digs in the four sets.
After a sluggish start, Siena played some of its volleyball of the season, hitting .306 over the final three sets.
Howell ended with 51 assists and eight digs. Christina Monroe killed six of her 10 swings, and Kelly Byrne added seven digs off the bench.
Canisius got 21 digs from libero Emily Litwin and out-blocked the Saints 10-7. The Griffs had 11 serving errors and were whistled four times for being out of rotation.
The win snapped a four-match MAAC losing streak for the Saints. The final three matches of the season will be at home, beginning with Sunday's 1 p.m. contest with Niagara.
