Siena Swimming and Diving stands tied for seventh following the first day of the 2013 MAAC Championships at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y. The Saints and Niagara both recorded 89 points through the first 12 events of the meet.

"I thought for the first day we competed well," said head coach Paul Kueterman. "There are a lot more swims tomorrow and we are looking forward to move up."

Marist raced out to a quick lead, posting 269 points on the first day. Rider (170) was a distance second followed by Canisius (135) in third. After that things are tighter with Iona currently standing fourth (103) followed by Loyola (100), Saint Peter's (94), Siena, Niagara, Fairfield (79) and Manhattan (28).

Sophomore Shannon Love posted the best finish of the day for a young Siena squad which features just one senior and only three juniors on its 18-member roster. Love swam to a time of 24:16 in the 50 free, finishing fourth overall.

Junior Dana Tricarico also scored in the 50 free for the Saints finishing 14th overall with a personal best time of 24:95.

On the one-meter board, freshman Hailey Beers became the first Saint to score in two years, finishing seventh overall with a score of 181.65.

Day Two of the three-day MAAC Championships resumes Friday morning with preliminary rounds starting at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m. All of the action will once again be webstreamed live on MAAC.TV.
