The Siena volleyball dropped its second straight decision Tuesday, falling 3-0 (29-27, 25-20 and 25-21) to Hartford in non-league play in the ARC. Haley Howell had 46 assists and nine digs in the loss for the Saints.
Hartford seized momentum by taking a back-and-forth first set that went deep into extra time. The Saints had a set point after Meghann Wright's kill made it 24-23, but Hartford bounced back and Siena fought off three set points before succumbing.
The Hawks sprinted to a 17-6 lead in the second set, but Siena stormed back and got within four at 23-19 before falling. Hartford led 10-4 and 14-8 in the third set, but Siena used a 7-1 run to pull even at 15-15. The set was tied at 21-21 when Sareeta Nethersole rose up for a kill igniting a 4-0 run to end the match.
Wright and Nethersole each had 14 kills.
Sonja Vasovic tallied nine kills and Christina Monroe came off the bench to finish five of her eight swings for Siena. The Saints had 50 kills compared to 46 for Hartford, and out-dug the Hawks 60-55. But Siena committed 20 attack errors, three setting errors, four handling errors and four service errors, handing Hartford 31 points.
The match was the start of a season-long, seven-match homestand. The Saints host Saint Peter's in MAAC action Saturday at 1 p.m.
