In a game that played very similar to many of Siena Field Hockey's games this season, a late Sacred Heart goal gave the Pioneers a 1-0 victory over the Saints Friday. The loss marks Siena's seventh loss this season by only one goal.

The Saints defense was strong again, allowing only one shot in the first half and only three for the entire game. The statistics were very similar for both teams yesterday as Mary Drabich and Mary Altepeter both recorded two saves. The Pioneers had a 4-3 edge in penalty corners, but the Saints had a 5-4 edge in shots.

The two teams had played to a 0-0 score with a little under five minutes left to play when Sacred Heart Junior Liz Bergman took advantage of a Pioneer power play and struck home a shot in the upper right corner of the net from the top of the circle. Neither team would record a shot from the rest of the game and the Pioneers would hold on for the victory.

Siena's best scoring opportunity came in the 40th minute when senior Megan Bohse got free deep in Sacred Heart's circle but her shot would go just wide of the net, one of Bohse's three shots on the afternoon.

The Saint's final stretch of games begin Sunday when they travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to take on Colgate at 12:00 pm.
