Oct. 5, 2014 Final Stats
Despite a late goal by senior forward Katherine Bowie the Siena Field Hockey team was unable to overcome Brown and lost 3-2. The Saints have lost three of their last four games by one goal each.
In their final non-conference game of the season, Siena (0-10) opened up the scoring in the 10th minute, as senior Gabrielle Sullivan lofted a shot high past Bears (6-2) goalie Shannon McSweeney. The goal, Sullivan's team-leading third of the season, came off an assist from Bowie. With the assist, Bowie took sole possession of second place on Siena Field Hockey's all-time assist list.
Brown would answer with a goal by senior Meghan O' Donnell five minutes later to tie the game 1-1. The Bears would take the lead with less than three minutes left in the half as sophomore Katarina Angus scored off of a late penalty corner.
Brown extended their lead early in the second half on an Alexis Miller goal from a penalty corner, giving the Bears a two-goal lead just seven minutes into the half.
Goalie Mary Drabich turned away a fury of Brown shots with a little over ten minutes to play, recording two of her four saves on the afternoon. The Saints were then able to capitalize on a penalty corner with seven minutes left to play. Bowie redirected a shot by freshman Molly Hagen shortly after the corner, cutting the Bear's lead to one. The goal was Bowie's first of the season, with Hagen picking up the first assist of her career.
Sullivan would put two shots on goal in the final five minutes, but McSweeney turned them both away and Brown held on for the 3-2 victory.
Bowie now has 10 assists for her career, putting her two behind Bernadette Fuchs for the all-time Saints lead. Siena begins conference play Friday with a home game against Quinnipiac.
