Siena Swimming and Diving fell to a strong University of Vermont team 169-119 Saturday.
Megan Grace and
Erica Askew continued their strong starts to the season, both winning individual races.
After a week off since their last meet at Assumption College the Saints competed with the Catamounts all afternoon. The meet started off well for Siena when the relay team of Katherine Canavan, Lauren Daly, Amanda York and Shannon Love finished second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:55.06.
Grace and Jacque Medina picked up points for the Saints in the 1000 free with Grace earning her third 1000 free win of the season. Freshman Fiona Dretzka picked up two-second place finishes swimming a 1:01.54 in the 100 back and a 2:15.77 in the 200 back.
Askew and Grace would win back-to-back events, Askew winning the 200 breast, swimming a 2:32.99 and Grace winning the 500 free, swimming a 5:18.89.
The Saints would close out the meet finishing second in the 200 free relay, when the relay team of York, Love, Maggie Fletcher and Colleen McDonough swam a 1:45.36. Hailey Beers finished second in both the 1 and 3 meter dives for the Saints, scoring 196.90 and 226.55, respectively.
Vermont freshman Shannon Cowley swam a 106.53 in the 100 breast, and the relay team of Andie Blaser, Courtney Gray, Katie Adams and Christa Weaver swam a 1:37.60 in the 200 free relay, both pool records.
"Although we didn't win the meet today, I can't be more proud of how we did against a tough competitor," said head coach Paul Kueterman, "we had some girls swim really well and that should help us going forward."
The Saints next meet is at Wagner next Saturday at 2 pm.
