Volleyball Wins Sixth Straight, Heads to Tourney on Fire

Nov. 16, 2014

Final Stats

Meghann Wright had 16 kills, Bobbi Lin Kalama added a career-high 28 digs and Jacqueline Skeen had nine blocks as Siena knocked off Saint Peter's in four sets (25-14, 25-23, 28-30 and 25-17) in Jersey City Sunday for its sixth straight victory.

Siena (16-14, 14-4) entered the match knowing it would be the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Championships, but they secured second place outright with the victory. They finished the season just one game behind Marist which defeated Rider in four sets in its finale to lock down the regular-season title and No. 1 seed.

Siena and Marist get the two byes into the Quarterfinals of the Championships Thursday night. The league's other eight teams will play preliminary round games beginning Thursday morning at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

The difference in Sunday's match was at the net where Siena out-blocked Saint Peter's (6-21, 3-15) 14-3. The Saints held a narrow 49-48 edge in kills over the stubborn Peacocks who fought hard in the middle sets to extend the match.

Rachel Stoklosa joined Wright in double figure kills with 12. Skeen and Christina Monore each added seven kills in the middle.

Dayana Arrufat (16 kills, 13 digs) and Lauren Behrens (10 kills, 12 digs) posted double-doubles for Saint Peter's.

Kalama's 28 digs were twice as many as any other player - that player was teammate Erin Bies who added two aces to her 14 digs. Kalama posted match-high digs in 15 of Siena's 18 MAAC matches this season, emerging as one of the top liberos in the conference in her second season.

Setter Haley Howell played another strong match, assisting on 46 of the Saints' 49 kills and adding nine digs.

Siena's second place MAAC finish is its best since 2008 when it won its last of four straight MAAC Championships.

The Saints will play the winner of #7 Canisius vs. #10 Quinnipiac. Siena and Canisius split their season series with the Griffs winning in straight sets on Opening Weekend in Loudonville and Siena bouncing back for a four set win in Buffalo last weekend. Siena swept Quinnipiac both times the teams met.
