Rachel Stoklosa led all players with 16 kills in her return to Western New York Saturday as Siena rolled to a key 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-21) MAAC win over Canisius. The Saints improved to 6-1 in conference road matches and remained in a second place tie in the MAAC standings.
Stoklosa had plenty of help with fellow outside Meghann Wright adding 15 kills and Jacqueline Skeen and Christina Monroe solidifying the middle. Skeen finished with nine blocks, eight kills and a .538 attack percentage and Monroe was a huge factor, finishing seven of her eight swings.
Setter Haley Howell assisted on 49 of the Saints' 52 kills and libero Bobbi Lin Kalama posted a match-high 23 digs.
The Saints had six aces and just three errors from the endline, and out-blocked the Griffs 11-7.
Kaitlyn Tyler led three Canisius players in double figures with 14 kills.
Canisius built a big early lead and held on for a 25-20 win in the first set, but Siena responded in a big way. The Saints coasted to a 25-19 win in the second set, fought off two set points to win a 27-25 decision in the third, and pulled away late for a 25-21 victory in the fourth.
It was an encouraging sign for a Siena team that lost consecutive matches to Marist and Fairfield two weeks ago after posting dominant first set wins. Saturday the Saints adjusted to the Canisius' game plan and finished strong.
Siena will look to run its win streak to four Sunday at Niagara.
