Siena Field Hockey Signs Three

June 11, 2014

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Field Hockey Head Coach Kara Zappone has announced her incoming freshman class. Maddie Correnti, Madi Gilbert and Molly Hagen have signed their National Letters of Intent and will suit up for the Saints beginning this fall.

"This year's incoming class is special," said Zappone, who enters her third year as coach. "They all have the potential to have an impact on the field right away. They fill some gaps in our roster and will make this season's team that much stronger. We are excited to see what our 2014 team will achieve with the additions of Maddie, Madi and Molly."

A native of Delran, N.J., Correnti was a four-year varsity starter for Holy Cross High. A 5'7" midfielder for the Lancers, Correnti was a three-time First Team All-Patriot Division selection. Correnti was named a Burlington County Times First Team All-County selection following her senior season after leading Holy Cross to a 14-2-1 overall record and NJSIAA Tournament Semifinal appearance. Correnti, who played her club field hockey for the WC Eagles, tallied 10 goals and nine assists during her high school career.

"Maddie is joining our program with a high level of hockey knowledge and confidence," stated Zappone. "She will be able to step into any role and have success through her hockey skills and ability to communicate with teammates. Her quick thinking and decision making skills are going to help us in the execution of our set pieces and team tactics."

Madi Gilbert

Gilbert matriculates to Loudonville all the way from Tulsa, Okla. where she started and played every minute in goal the past two seasons for Holland Hall Upper School. The team captain for the Dutchmen, as a senior she was named a First Team All-Conference selection after posting a 1.73 goals against average. Gilbert, who tallied 10 career shutouts, also played for the Houston Hockey Club Team.

"The goalkeeper position is very important in the execution of our play," noted Zappone. "Madi is a high level player whose athleticism will allow her to be competitive right away. She will add to a very competitive group of goalkeepers on our team who continue to push the program to new levels."

A local product from nearby Ballston Lake, N.Y., Hagen helped guide Shenendehowa High to the NYSPHSAA Class A State Championship last fall. The 5'6" midfielder scored a goal in the title game for the Plainsmen which finished with a 20-2 overall record. A two-time Suburban Council Second Team All-Star and three-time scholar athlete, Hagen was a part of three Section II Class A Championship teams at Shenendehowa and an ADK Field Hockey Festival Champion for her club ADK squad.

Molly Hagen

"Molly is a very dynamic player who plays very smart hockey," added Zappone. "She has already improved greatly in the past few months we have been watching her play, and are looking forward to watching her continue to grow. She will be a great asset to the growth of the program."

Additionally, a fourth newcomer will join the Saints' three incoming freshmen this fall. Maggie Liguori, a sophomore defender from Belmar, N.J. and St. Rose High, has been added to the roster.

"We are very excited for Maggie to join our roster this season in her sophomore year," said Zappone. "Her attitude and willingness to work hard is going to help her grow as a hockey player. She is a student of the game and is eager to learn all the time."

The four newcomers will make their debuts as Saints when the 2014 season opens on Aug. 31 at Drexel. The program's full schedule will be released in the near future.
