Siena looks to improve on a season in which they ended the program's 54-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over conference rival Sacred Heart.
The Saints were picked to finished last in the MAAC this season, but this hasn't discouraged Coach Kara Zappone or her players one bit.
"Since I've really gotten a grasp on the girls, they've really taken it to another level," said Zappone.
Siena returns an experienced team that boasts five seniors and their top six scorers from last season. Junior Mary Drabich takes over in goal for the departed Beth Meyers who left Siena as the NCAA's active saves leader (598.) Senior Megan Bohse will anchor the backline, while Senior Gabrielle Sullivan will help lead the attack. Bohse ranked seventh nationally with six defensive saves in 2013 and Sullivan lead the team with four goals.
This will be the Saints first ever meeting with Drexel who finished 13-7 last year and are picked to finish second in the Colonial Athletic Association this season. They return 19 players and feature four preseason all-CAA players.
Attention to detail, the Saints believe, will be the key to success this season.
"This season we're really looking to improve our stats," says Zappone, "It has really helped us focus on the little things, which will then turn into winning the bigger picture, winning the games."
