In a tightly played game, the Siena Field Hockey team lost 3-1 at Fairfield Saturday afternoon.
Megan Bohse scored the lone goal for the Saints, her first goal of the season.
A scoreless game throughout most of the first half, Fairfield (4-5) was able to score late in the half on a goal by Marta Laginja in the 33rd minute. Gabrielle Sullivan, Katherine Bowie and Fabiana Citro each recorded a shot in the first half.
After a Stags goal in the 44th minute pushed the lead to 2-0, Bohse scored on a penalty corner in the 47th minute. Bowie initiated the corner with Fabiana Citro chipping in on the assist, the first assist for both players on the season.
In her first career collegiate start freshman goalie Madi Gilbert saved a season-high seven shots. The Saints (0-6) had seven shots on the afternoon, their second highest total of the season.
Siena travels to Worcester, Mass. Wednesday to take on Holy Cross at 6pm. Holy Cross narrowly defeated Siena 3-2 last season in the Saints season opener.
