The Siena Field Hockey team suffered a tough loss Wednesday, dropping their contest with Holy Cross 3-2. Holy Cross scored the game winning goal in the 68th minute, their third goal of the second half.
In a first half played mostly on the Crusaders' (3-7) side of the the field, the Saints (0-7) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the fifth minute junior Sage Stebbins forced a turnover deep in Holy Cross territory and scored from the right side of the net. The goal was the first of Stebbins' career.
In the 34th minute, Gabrielle Sullivan knocked home her second goal of the season off a Fabiana Citro baseline cross, to give Siena a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Saints controlled most of the first half, but that control shifted to Holy Cross in the second half. The Crusaders outshot Siena 6-0 and scored twice in the final 11 minutes, including the game-winner by Molly Feit in the 68th minute. Siena was unable to put another shot on goal, and Holy Cross held on for the 3-2 victory.
After sitting out the last game goalie Mary Drabich got the start, saving four shots in the loss.
